Thermo MeasureTech History
Thermo MeasureTech, headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, was originally founded as three separate companies almost 50 years ago. Established in 1956, Texas Nuclear developed the EDXRF technology for elemental analysis that today is leading the field of Alloy Analysis.
In 1965, the second TN-KSI Company, Sensall, was founded under the name National Sonics Company in Farmington, New York. Their focus was to design and manufacture ultrasonic level sensors – the cornerstone of Sensall’s current product line.
The following year, Kay-Ray, the third company was founded. Kay-Ray’s focus was to manufacture non-intrusive density measuring devices utilizing radiometric energy.
Over the next twenty years, the three companies developed the backbone of the product line that now comprises Thermo MeasureTech.
In 1989, Kay-Ray purchased Sensall and moved the company to its Chicago-area headquarters, where it is currently located in Mt. Prospect, Illinois.
Thermo Electron purchased TN Technologies in 1994 and subsequently opened sales and service operations in Canada and The Netherlands. Two years later, Thermo Electron purchased Kay-Ray/Sensall. With such strong and complimentary product lines, it only made sense that TN Technologies and Kay-Ray/Sensall operate as one company with two factories. Hence the formation of Thermo MeasureTech.
Our parent company—Thermo Electron—is a global leader in providing technology-based instruments, components, and systems that offer total solutions for markets ranging from life sciences to telecommunications to food and beverage production. In 1999, Thermo Electron's instrument businesses, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, reported $2.2 billion in revenues and employed approximately 14,000 people worldwide.
Today Thermo MeasureTech is an instrumentation leader in many of the markets it serves. The company brand lines: Texas Nuclear, Kay-Ray and Sensall reflect the heritage and strength of the three individual companies and offer the customer a wide range of resources to fit specific measurement applications.
